Udo Prinsen is a visual artist, animation director and multi media collaborator. A 1999 honors graduate of the department of animation of the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht, Udo started his career as an animator working on commercial campaigns, television, feature film, corporate projects and documentary. After living and working in England for a while Udo returned to Utrecht and ever since dedicates his time directing imagery for film, musea and documentary combined with long exposure photography work.
Udo’s projects often deal with themes like nature, music, human interest and cultural diversity and are usually presented as an independent format or, when under commission as an applied art project.
With his numerous short films, Udo found his audience in many film festivals, events and musea. His animated short Audition (2011) scored by Eric Vloeimans and Martin Fondse won several awards. Other short artistic films he created are Into Spring (2013) in collaboration with Han Bennink(ICP Orchestra) and Look!(2015) a playful but educational film combining Dutch sign language and animation.
More recently Udo worked as an artist in residence on a Dutch polar expedition combining long exposure photography and other media techniques. This led to working with Oene van Geel (viola) and Mark Haanstra (bass guitar) creating a music album and visual show after his polar photo series Shapes of time.
Additional to his work as a filmmaker and photographer, Udo is an active member of the Dutch film making community advocating and promoting the art of animation from the Netherlands. This led to his initiative setting up a website called dutchanimation.com.
